Noell P. Tin cites the opportunity to champion the cause of the individual targeted by the government for prosecution as the source of his tireless professional commitment. Mr. Tin has practiced in over 30 North Carolina counties, all three federal districts in North Carolina, as well as the federal courts in South Carolina, Virginia, New York and Florida. He has successfully defended clients in state and federal jury trials, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has also successfully petitioned the United States Supreme Court and obtained summary reversals of lower court decisions three times. Mr. Tin's cases have attracted substantial media coverage and have been covered by the Charlotte Observer, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, as well as local and national television stations.
Mr. Tin received Martindale Hubbell's AV rating, the highest possible for legal ability and ethical standards, in 2003 at the age of 34. He has also been recognized by Best Lawyers in America (2010), Business North Carolina's Legal Elite (2006-2009), and North Carolina Superlawyers (2008-2010).
Mr. Tin serves on the boards of directors of the Fair Trial Initiative and the Western District of North Carolina Federal Community Defender. He is past co-president of the Mecklenburg County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and has served on two Merit Selection Committees to select finalists for United States Magistrate Judge positions.
Mr. Tin is married to district court judge Becky Thorne Tin.
