Noell P. Tin cites the opportunity to champion the cause of the underdog as the source of his tireless professional commitment. Noell has practiced in over 30 North Carolina counties and the three federal districts in North Carolina, as well as the federal courts in South Carolina, Virginia, New York and Florida. He has successfully defended clients in state and federal jury trials, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Noell has also successfully petitioned the United States Supreme Court and obtained summary reversals of lower court decisions three times. His cases have attracted substantial media coverage and have been covered by the Charlotte Observer, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, as well as local and national television stations including ABC News' 20/20.
Noell first received Martindale Hubbell's AV rating, the highest possible for legal ability and ethical standards, in 2003 at the age of 34 and has maintained that rating until the present. He is recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the areas of white collar and non-white collar criminal defense, Business North Carolina's Legal Elite, and Superlawyers. He is also a fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America, an honorary society for trial lawyers.
Noell serves on the boards of directors of the Fair Trial Initiative and the Western District of North Carolina Federal Community Defender. He is past co-president of the Mecklenburg County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and has served on two Merit Selection Committees to select finalists for United States Magistrate Judge positions.
Noell is married to district court judge Becky Thorne Tin.
