Jonathan P. Wallas

Jonathan P. Wallas​ joined Tin Fulton Walker & Owen in the spring of 2012. Before joining the firm Jonathan practiced with Ferguson Stein Chambers Gresham & Sumter for nearly four decades, litigating some of the most important civil rights cases across the state and country. Today Jonathan limits his practice to wills, trusts, health care powers of attorney and similar matters.

Jonathan has tried numerous employment discrimination cases, including many class actions, in federal courts. In the 1970s, he participated in a number of felony jury trials, including two capital cases. He has also tried cases involving the First Amendment, personal injury and medical malpractice cases, bankruptcy litigation, and business and contract matters. He previously represented the Resolution Trust Corporation in numerous matters, including professional liability litigation.

Jonathan has both argued and assisted in preparation of briefs in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth and Seventh Circuits, in all of the United States District Courts in North Carolina and South Carolina, and in state courts across North Carolina. Jonathan has taught classes in civil rights litigation at Columbia University Law School and the University of Pennsylvania Law School and has lectured on employment discrimination litigation and related matters at various seminars. Jonathan has consistently been listed in Best Lawyers in America for labor law.

Jonathan is a certified North Carolina Superior Court mediator and FINRA arbitrator. Since 2004, he has mediated scores of civil cases filed in North Carolina Superior Court and the United States District Courts. He has also been involved at various stages in arbitrations under the auspices of FINRA.

Jonathan P. Wallas has served on various committees of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association including service as chairman of the Grievance and Fee Dispute committees. He is a past member of the national board of the National Employment Lawyers Association and has served on the board of Jewish Social Services.
