Vernetta Alston

Vernetta joined Tin Fulton in 2024 following several years in commercial real estate development. She received her B.A. in Political Science from North Carolina State University and her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.


Vernetta began her legal career working on the North Carolina Racial Justice Act before working as a staff attorney at the Center for Death Penalty Litigation. At CDPL, Vernetta represented death row inmates in state and federal post-conviction cases. She also litigated non-capital direct appeal cases in North Carolina appellate courts. Vernetta represented Henry McCollum who was exonerated from his conviction and released from North Carolina's death row in 2014 after 31 years of wrongful incarceration.


Vernetta previously served on the Durham City Council. She now serves in the North Carolina House of Representatives for District 29.
Vernetta's practice focuses on criminal, appellate, and a range of housing and land use matters.
